Official Poker Rules

Official poker rules are a set of guidelines that govern a game. They are designed to help the players in a tournament or at a club to understand the rules of the game and settle any disputes.

The rules are different in different places and are subject to change from time to time. These changes are made to ensure that the game remains fair and abides by the highest standards of ethics.

A player’s turn consists of betting, checking, calling, raising or folding. Once all betting has been completed, the players reveal their hole cards to determine a winning hand.

Each player is dealt two hole cards and can combine them with the community cards to make a five-card poker hand. The best combination of the player’s cards wins the pot.

The first betting round begins with the player sitting immediately to the left of the big blind. They can check, bet, call (match the amount of the big blind), raise or fold.

Betting is continued clockwise with each player being given the opportunity to bet, call or raise.

It is important that a player keeps their cards away from the muck until they have a winning hand. It can be tempting to call when you have a large monster on the flop, but it is always the player’s responsibility to keep their cards safe until they have a win.

Despite this, there are certain cases that can break the poker rules. For example, using a cell phone whilst playing in a WFP final or peeking at another player’s cards while they are looking is a form of cheating and could be considered a serious offense.
